The Blandford Fashion Museum has a large archive of wonderful accessories, some of which are on display and some of which are in store.
This year we set up a new accessories room in order to display a selection of the interesting items we have at the museum. It can be difficult to display interesting items where we do not have a garment of the correct period to show off the accessories or there are small delicate items which need to be secured. We are fortunately able to buy a new lockable display case for these.
The current exhibition shows accessories grouped in decades. Each group comprises items from different sources, the styles, characteristics and colour palletes of different periods are very evident.
The new room shows visitors a small selection of the acessories from the museum. We have a growing collection; shoes and boots, hats, fans, handbags, evening bags and reticules, umbrellas, parasols, gloves and jewellery, including the wonderful collection of Dorset buttons you see here. |
